Bust dat door down

Passing the Busta Ship this morning, I saw THE most hideous door they had installed.

It is such a carbuncle that I can only imagine that it is either a temporary measure or Mr Patel designs whilst holding a white stick. This is a Conservation Area for God's sake. Show some thought for aesthetics.

Well I've just popped to the Co-op and have noticed that they are not knocking the windows out, but painting them black! How stupid were we to believe that they would restore it to its former glory!

Maybe they're hoping that as it will be black it will "look" like windows from a far!!

I agree with you regarding the security aspect. But is it not a little odd that they have removed the cladding from the outside of the bricks and now painted them black. That strikes me as a final move rather than an intermediate move. I hope I'm wrong!

I'm not thinking doom and gloom, just keeping an eye on how things are moving.

and why haven't they bricked up all of the windows?

It's not 'doom mongers' it's reality mate.

Wool & Eyes springs to mind.

Just went and had a look at the windows, yep there are definately black painted breeze blocks behind the windows - could be a security thing I guess - but who knows with this lot. A fellow resident told me that on the day of the previous licensing application they were giving out leaflets about the club from a small store at the back of Marks and Sparks in woolwich ? any one heard about this?

opps I meant on the day of the previous licensing hearing...

Hmm have seen the door as well, I think they have been taking decor tips from Handy Andy and his handy tips on "100 unattractive items you can make from MDF"

and it looks really sound proof as well doesnt it!!

I heard the same thing about the leaflets being handed out on the day of the previous hearing. It was apparently talking up this new Club being opened - yipee.

I did not manage to get a copy though, only heard about it afterwards. I *think* that store near M&S, which was passing out the leaflets, has something to do with Mr Busta Patel as well.

It depends on why the council asked for the original outer blockwork to be removed as to whether the inner blockwork is acceptable or not.
If it was removed because it had been installed with no planning permission, then he is still in breach of planning, if it was because the building facade had to remain the same, then he is ok doing this. It may well not be acceptable to the Fire Brigade, as this would have been a means of escape that he has blocked up.
You would never use blockwork for a temporary security fix, that would have been done with bolt-on metal grilles, these are definitely meant to be permanent.

There now appears to be window frames on the said bricked up windows with boards covering 90% them...

What is actually going on, does anyone know? He seems to still be building without any consent.

It looks like at least the two side windows now have windows (frames and glass) and that the black breeze blocks have been removed. Curiouser and curiouser...

Thanks

Tomorrow is the deadline for written representations. We should be notified of a hearing within due course.

Now that the paint has dried, the "makeover" (at least as far as the exterior is concerned) is looking decidedly dodgy.

Unfortunately, it looks like Busta has been watching too many Homefront programmes and overlooked the need for making good or preparation.

Silly me. The paint won't start flaking until after the planning officers have visited. Let's hope the building control chaps can get involved.

Am I making a point about Planning Officers Vs Building Control Officers? You decide...
