I know there have been umpteen postal strikes this Summer, but I am somewhat disappointed that my letter from Greenwich Council informing me of The Ship's planning application took so long to land on my door mat.
- The letter is dated 28th August
- The franked post date on the envelope is 8th September
- The letter arrived at my door on 14th September
- The deadline for me to respond to this letter is 17th September. TODAY

Shame .....
my letter was hand delivered
and that says responses have to be in by the 18th.
Are we all being sent different letters / information?
I worked on the idea that if it says that letters have to be in BY the 18th, that doesn't tell me if it means 18th 9am or 5.30pm deadline.
My rule of thumb - always have some contingency and don't leave it to the last minute.
Happy emailing me dearios.
Mine arrived this morning...
My email has been sent! Job done.
Never before have so many people with so little to say said so much to so few.
Well you had to stick your oar in didn't you?
I never received notification from the Council (even though I was deemed to be in the "catchment area" last time). I had to rely on good old Clive to let me know. I have emailed today.
Come on "Busta". Why not employ a cook and serve food. Lunches, dinners, a selection of sandwiches perhaps - it doesn't have to be grastro. I'm sure no-one would object to an attractive screen around the forecourt for eating al fresco without the vehicle fumes. Get some advice about the decor and conservation of the building, tart up the outside, and last, but not least, change the focus on who you are trying to attract (families, people looking for a local meal out that isn't curry, noodles or kebabs yet again). You really need to get the local people on side.
OH NO!!
Been on holiday and fear I'm too late to object. Not received any notification of changes this time - despite receiving one at the time of the previous skirmish! Has the affected cachment area shrunk? Interesting that the letter of notification was dated the Friday before a bank holiday resulting in the loss of at least one day in objection time.
Will email my councillor immediately - see you all at the Town Hall!
Had a reply from a local councillor suggesting the hearing is likely to be on the 8th October ... any one else been given a possible date?
Very concerning that people werent sent letters on time it hardly allows for proper process - mine was hand delivered, so did they suddenly decide they should have sent them out to more people, and put some in the post. I think Greenwich Council had a bit of explaining to do.
re. serving food at The Ship. apparently Mr Ship shot himself in his own foot when he attached residential accomodation to the back of the building. because of that he cannot have a kitchen with requisite extractor, etc on the premises. so he can disturb his tenants with banging music and drunken louts, but not kitchen smells.
Dimps, how can you attract families without allowing under 18's ?? Suggest you speak out in favour of the application so this can happen !!
Whats a dimp
I suggested shifting the focus from a nightclub/late night dance venue to a pub that serves food.
Is the previous contributer being purposely obtuse?
On a slightly different note, about another local hostelry - does anybody know whether the rumours are true about the Woolwich Catholic Club going into receivership?
