Busta's Open

Boy oh boy. It's been such a long time that I almost forgot how to write a blog.

Well, I just walked past The Ship formerly known as The Ship. There is some kind of shin-dig going on in there. I guess it must be the topping-off ceremony (as we in the trade call it). It looked a pretty sober affair and the only gold chains were worn around ladies necks. [I made that last bit up to keep the Busta Rhymes unsavouriness alive - ed.]

The interior fit-out looks like it amounted to seven hundred tins of magnolia emulsion. At the moment, it's a nice fresh look. Some would call it soul-less, but early days. At least it's pointing in the right direction. It looks friendly and likeable. We'll see how the interior design develops as Mr Patel eases into the character of his venture.

Yes. It also looks smart on the outside. Windows look like they are in good order and there is traditionlly looking gold lettering reading "THE SHIP" on the front. So looks like we've got ourselves a shiny new pub called The Ship.

i completely agree headless 291! let's all go to the ship and be the 'decent' people to make it the kind of place we'd like to have.

Am I the only person to notice that these blue signs he puts up (to do with planning I presume) are always behind a big pile of rubble?

This morning I went to have a look at it, and, now that the rubble's gone, so, mysteriously, has the blue sign.

I know he's got to display the signs but does it count if it's not accessible?

The deadline about the license was yesterday, so I suppose that's why the notice has come down.

Don't forget The Star, people. It would be a shame if Brian lost custom because we encouraged them to cross the road.

They seem to be working flat out to get it ready for something... A Christmas party perhaps? Are we all invited?

I was walking around the corner of Wernbrook this morning, and passed two tenants coming out of the flats attached to the ship. I peered in the Ship window with them and shared comments about the refurbishment. Then, they told me the place is due to open next! I asked how they knew this? They said their landlord (mr busta ship) told them. I ask how it was it was opening without the license being approved yet? They said that thought it was approved already?! Anyone know what's going on there? when is the hearing? How can they open the place without an approved license?!

also, forgot to say. rusty lamp post (or ship mast??) appears to still be on the roof. but new traditional-style windows are now in (where bricks were prevously inserted and mysteriously painted black, then removed). also the 'handy andy' door has white primer on it now and the inside is set up with full pub bar set up, etc

I passed the woodman today and noticed it has a blue application attached to it...anyone read it?

Do you know back in 2005 there was an application rejected from the woodman for 2 nights a week 'gentlemens night' and another 2 nights 'ladies night'. What is it with plumstead and strippers?

It would be illegal for any public house to run without a license. If you do happen to spot that 'The Ship' is opening before the license is granted, please call the police straight away on their non-emergency number 020 8855 1212 and report it. Ask for their crimereference number before ending the call as this would be needed when communicating to the council. The police would need to report this to the council anyway, but at least you are able to keep a track of things. The police has a legal obligation to come and visit the scene, ie. establishment in question. Hope this does help if they do decide to open before getting the license. Make sure you report it, because if 'The Ship' does open without a license the virtually make it impossible for themselves to ever get a license under the same licensee!

A good additional reason to oppose the dancing element of the licence application!

Posted this on another board on here then saw this thread which is more appropriate.

Last time I received a letter from the licensing committee telling me that my objection letter had been accepted - but then heard nothing from the committee co-ordinators. I phoned a couple of days before the hearing - they were very apologetic, added me to the list and delivered all the documents the following morning.

So, I just want to reiterate the point in the above post - if you do not receive an invitation to the hearing during the week before the hearing, please make sure you ring the number mentioned. If you wish to speak at the meeting, you will need to let the committee co-ordinators know by the day before the hearing at the latest.

I want the ship to become a lapdance club. It would make a change from the tawdry crackwhores on the high street.

It's a shame the new owners of the ship didn't take a short trip on the no. 53 to New Cross and have a pint in the Royal Albert (formly The Paradise Bar). That is the sort of pub we need on the Common not a poor man student's union. The Ship had the potential to be turned into a good pub which served good beers and food at a reasonable rate and the owners would have made a killing. Hopefully the owners of the Ship will be force to sell and the Meantime Brewery might take it off their hands.
