Hello again

Thanks to the lovely listeners who have taken part in the Plumsteadshire Feedback Forum, more commonly known as blog comments. It is this interaction that makes writing Plumsteadshire so enjoyable.

I am still brain-storming ideas with the Plumsteadshire Creative Team about a possible website, but it's a long way off yet. I have a variety of ideas ranging from useless facts to useful tradespeople, but definitely don't want it exclusively about pubs.

Speaking of which, the general consensus on The Ship is that it is crap. As I had pointed out before, the (interior & exterior), design is non-existent and it sounds like the atmosphere is pretty frosty too. I'm going to pop in to check it out myself at some point. I think I'll let it settle a little before I do though; let Mr Patel iron out the little creases before I go for a Bishop's Finger.

hello. a plumsteadshire website would be excellent. if people could share tradespeople info, perhaps with short reviews of their experience that would be really useful. and also maybe it could eventually include listings of happenings in the shire and links to online resources like local council contacts, PCEG and any other local groups, area history, green chain walk, new local developments, etc.

so far we have had 2 electricians and a painter/decorator come round and come back with a quote never to be heard of again!
I have however foudn a gardener from Gumtree. Does anyone know a good painter/decorator - I need someone to do my hallway and think it has backing paper that needs to be removed/papered over first (what do i know last time i had a paint brush in my hand i was at school).
maybe someone can set up a new blog about plumstead just for useful info/numbers/places of interest etc. With a thread called after each item. i.e. a pub thread, a restaurant thread, local tradesmen, school info, transport, regeneration etc?

FENCING and LANDSCAPING: I can recommend a man who can do fences and landscaping. Almost all our old rotting fences blew down in the storm in January and I rang around for loads of quotes. These ranged from only £500 from a dodgy sounding guy who was going to sling up some cheap stuff, all the way up to £2000 for a man who brought an impressive portfolio of landscaping work he had done. We had to be sensible about cost (£2000 is too much for us sadly) but we also wanted a good quality, sturdy and attractive fence that would stand up for a long time that we could actually afford. We found Lee from L.M.B. Fencing: 01322 524848. He quoted us £820 for 23 featheredge panels, replacement of a few concrete posts and removal of all old panels. It was a tricky job because of the garden sloping down to several levels, so panels needed to be cut on angles, etc. It really looks excellent now: the fencing is very sturdy and attractive.
Lee arranged the delivery of all supplies and removal of old panels. Since his colleague was off with flu during the days he scheduled to do our job, it took him 3 rather than 2 days to finish the fence, which was no bother at all and demonstarted how diligent he is. He worked incredibly hard and has a good eye for detail - he is a perfectionist about height, fit etc which is what you want: someone who does it properly and looks on a job with price when he's done.
He will be coming back to do some landscaping for us: getting rid of a large paved area, laying turf and creating the shape for borders, etc. I'll let you know how that goes.

Now that sounds interesting as our garden is also on a slope. We have 2 layers of decking and garden that we can use and then a ski slope of bramble and god knows what else living down there. We have found someone to clear it but would be interested in how your landscaping goes on and how much that costs as the bottom of our garden is also paved i think so we are considering putting the shed down there and then putting down gravel and large plant pots, however i have no interest in gardening just in things looking nice so i need someone who knows what they're doing to do this and advise us on how it might look.
But with the house needing painting from head to toe we also dont have £2k to spare.
Be v interested to hear how you get on.
