Last night, I saw the Romanian bunch having a picnic out on the Common. Sitting, chatting, children playing, it was a nice scene ever so slightly reminiscent of La Grande Jatte. Then I saw one of their chums bringing an old vacuum cleaner across the grass. I know they raid the recycling bins [I'm resigned to the fact they do this as at least they are recycling, even though they have in the past left the cast-offs strewn all around on the ground], opposite the Co Op, so I guess this is their latest acquisition.
Today, I see that the vacuum cleaner has been left in bits on the Common, just where they were sitting. That's really thoughtless and selfish of them. I'll leave it at that.

That is the beauty of New Labour Britain. I am a bit puzzled by so called refugees from Eastern European. Virtually all Eastern European countries are either full EU members or candidates for this so how can anyone plausibly come here and claim to be a refugee. Or is it the lure of benefits and housing(and free hoovers)
doesnt surprise me, its a great life when you can sit on the common all day and enjoy the sunshine while mugs like us are out working to pay for them to live in their big house on the common, disgusting
how do you know they're refugees and/or claiming any benefits? They might just be having a holiday....
I have a question for you Dr.
What point were you trying to make by mentioning that they were Romanian? Why does it matter to you what nationality they were?
Also, how did you know their country of origin just from looking at them - a rare gift my dear Dr, a rare gift!
Not a rare gift at all. One of my friends spoke to them once and they told him. Simple eh?
Dr,
The primary question remains unanswered; "Why did you decide to mention their nationality in your post?"
Seriously, I'm curious as to what positive impact you think it has on the post, to single out these people as from Eastern Europe.
I just don't like playing the overly politically correct card anymore. If I see an English person, I'll say English person. If I see a Somalian person, I say Somalian person. If I see a Japanese person...... and it goes on.
Let's not be afraid to use description.
I must admit that I do sound like I'm persecuting this group, but over many months I've noticed unsociable events which I've kept my mouth shut about, simply because I know I'll be shot down for it because speaking my mind is no longer acceptable.
I've witnessed the recycling bins being ransacked by this group, I've almost had my child's bike taken by them and I've had them peering into my car as I step out of it.
Yes, you can say I'm pretty damned fed up with this Romanian group by now and I'm finally voicing my opinion.
Good on you Doctor Pangloss. I come from an ethnic minority myself & I am more than happy to be known as such. The only reason the family in question are here is that this is the only country to hand out benefits and housing to anyone who tells a hard luck story. Family on holiday lol! Perhaps that big house is a holiday let!
I can assure you that the family in question are Romanian and they are here permanently as they took away an old sofa I did not want and I spoke to them. They are refugees or claiming to be so and this does consitute a holiday of sorts at the tax payers expense
There are 32 boroughs in London and most are exactly the same as Plumstead. And some are even worse.
The Great British public lol
I really dont want to jump on the band wagon here and been seen to be persecuting anyone, but i have just witnessed two memebers of my new neighbours trying to remove the leterbox froma vacant house on the street, for what reason i couldnt possibly imagine, maybe to gain access to the property or maybe just because they liked the look of the shiny letterbox, naturally i phoned the police and when the police arrived and asked for a description what was i to say, was i to be so left wing and just say oh they were human, im sick and tired of the liberals who have made this country a complete joke,
With views likes yours anonymous, its not the liberals that make this country a joke believe me.
In fact its not just our country you are making a joke...
Is your name Garnett by any chance?
ridiculous. if you were describing a white person you would say they were blond/brown haired, fat/thin, tall/short etc, why not describe by colour as well? The fact is that if it is Romanians/Poles/whatever committing these crimes why not describe it that way? Get over your PC self and wake up to the fact that alot of crime is committed by ethnic minorities - except they're not so much of a minority in some places are they..
I, like most people think Plumstead is really nice around the common and is yet to realise it's full potential, there are a great many people here who take pride and care of their homes and surrounding areas, yet there are also a number of selfish people who are filthy and have no care for their surroundings and it needs to be addressed.
Of course crimes are being committed by minorities, but what some seem to truly overlook or play ignorant to is the fact that it's still a minority of those minorities that can be bad people. Just because a higher portion of the ethnic minorities may be committing crime than the portion of whites does not mean that most members of ethnic minorities are committing crimes. Most people of all backgrounds are hard working, decent, caring people. If you go to any parts of the Britain that are predominantly white, will you still see crime problems? Yes, of course you do. What about parts of Scotland? Glasgow has higher levels of knife crime per population than London, and what colour are they? White! Does this mean that it gets percieved that all whites are like that? No... so why do some see it that way when they think of other races except their own? It seems that some people only truly see people as distinct individuals when they are the same race as themselves, despite all sharing the same characteristic that they would use to tar all members of another race with the same brush. What a sad part of society...
There's plenty of other similar examples. Many crimes are more likely to be committed by a poorer person, yet those people who would judge someone based on race wouldn't necessarily judge someone on wealth? Why not? It's the same principal. But some of those judgemental people are not too well-off themselves. It's just double-standards and hypocrisy. In reality, the majority of poor people are decent - even if the majority of some crimes are committed by people who would fit that social group - just like with race. Just because the majority of a given crime or whatever may seem to be committed by a racial group, by no means are the majority of that group comitting that crime.
Further to this, it's often the case that people will judge even people of their own race, by their location or wealth, e.g. Southerners judging Northerners, and vice versa; poor people judging wealthier people, and vice versa. They will separate their own race at least, even if they still make unfounded judgements on people they don't know based on minorities within a group... but when it comes to another race, they are all put together. No distinction on nationality, locality, wealth, or background. Just race and that is all. However, someone from a certain background or nation may be much more likely to be "bad" than someone from a completely different nation but of the same race. This is not seen though, and they are all judged together on the colour/race alone. Once again, hypocrisy and double-standards rear their ugly heads.
Thankfully those "bad" judgemental white people are also a minority, just like the bad people from any other group whether it be a ethnic/racial, national, local, wealth, age, or any other based social group. Some of us at least do have compassion and are not judgemental, and see all people as the individuals that they are.
Rant over LOL
Do you know what! Was waiting at the bus stop opposite Plumstead Common ( still can't drive thanks to ongoing back issue:0) .... and the Romanians' were there on the grass again. Lolling about ( it wasn't exactly sunny today either).
Goodness knows why they like to hang out there like that in overcast weather. Hmmmn. Not really fair that they're hanging out like this on tax payers money.
Before half of you go mad, they didn't look like they were on their lunch break and our area isn't exactly renowned for 'trustafarians' having afternoon picnics. I am sure they don't live on fresh air.... more like my hard earned tax! I presume they were Romanian, I mean they LOOKED Romanian judging by the shell suits and head scarves. If anyone is desperate to get all PC on me, please look to the direction of Ealing West London and how that Afghan refugee family are guzzling up an inordinate amount of money from the state ?!?! How the hell is that justified? It's no wonder this country is in such a pickle. There are a lot of very hard working migrant workers in this country .... and then there are a load of lazy jackasses ( Brits, Romanians et al ) who are being bankrolled by people like me !!! Am sick of people defending such DYSFUNCTIONAL members of society in the name of political correctness. Just because they are from some backward country with an horrendous human rights record. Hello ?!? Calling them Romanian isn't exactly hurting their feelings, it's stating a fact. When I have been to Milan where I have seen Romanian beggars letting their grubby faced toddlers eat chewing gum from the floor, it is heartbreaking. If I go to Knightsbridge they are harassing people for money with babies constricted in swaddling ALL DAY while they BEG !! Gawd, maybe you PC lot should admit that yes, Romanian people can be a little dysfunctional ?!?!
